M&S hikes price of popular £10 Dine In meal deal - but you won

Posh supermarket chain Marks and Spencer has hiked the price of its Dine In meal deal.

The offering has gone up from £10 to £12 - a 20% mark up for shoppers.

M&S has increased the number of dishes you can choose from as part of its Dine In deal, but sadly you don’t get anything extra for the new price.

The Dine In deal still includes a main, side and a starter or dessert, which is the same as when it was £10.

M&S previously had a £12 meal deal offer that included a bottle of wine as well, but it removed the booze part of the offering earlier this year and dropped the price to £10.

The new £12 Dine In offer doesn’t include any form of drink - meaning shoppers will have to fork out extra for this.

Of course, getting the Dine In deal is still better value than buying each of the items individually.

For example, based on Ocado prices, you’d pay £17.25 if you purchased the Gastropub runny egg starter, beef bourguignon main and triple cooked chips for sides.

This means you’d save £5.25 thanks to the meal deal. Of course, there are still cheaper supermarket dine in offerings out there.

Tesco has a meal deal for two, exclusive for Clubcard members, at £10 and this includes a main, side, dessert and drink.

The mains, sides and starters are all the same price - £6, £2.60 and £3, respectively - and the priciest booze you can get costs £7, meaning a total saving of £18.60.

A spokesperson for M&S told Love Money: “The M&S Dine In offering has grown over the last few years, with the addition of Family Dine In from £15 and special occasion Dine In menus such as Valentine’s Day at £20.

"The pricing varies to suit the occasion, and we’re confident the £12 Dine In offers excellent quality and value, with the best brands within M&S being offered as part of the deal, including Our Best Ever and Gastropub dishes.

"The Gastropub range has been recently upgraded and perfected, with only the best quality ingredients, and prepared in a way that gives delivers unmistakable M&S quality.”
