Chef shares how to cook hard-boiled eggs so the shell

There are so many ways to cook your eggs - poached, sunny side up, scrambled to name a few - but the easiest method has to be hard-boiled.

They're fool-proof and simple to make, but peeling the shell is a boring and time-consuming task that no one enjoys - especially when you're hungry.

Thankfully, a chef has shared a trick to cooking the eggs that will help the shell "slide right off" once it's been boiled.

In the video, which has since been viewed more than 109,000 times, she explained that the simple answer to achieving easy-to-peel boiled eggs is steam, rather than water.

"Chef tip! I haven't hard-boiled an egg in 10 years," she said.

She starts by filling a pot with cold water before adding a metal steaming basket and putting her eggs on top.

She then puts the heat on high for 12 to 14 minutes and leaves it to cook.

And when the timer goes off the eggs are perfectly hard-boiled and the shell slips right off.

"The hot steam makes the egg white proteins contract, pulling away from the shell membrane," she explained.

Since being posted, the video has received more than 3,800 likes and dozens of comments from impressed viewers.

One person said: "Agree! Plus it saves energy and is much more precise because there’s no temperature drop when eggs are put in."

Another wrote: "Yes! 12 min on high and the easiest peel ever."

A third commented: "Wait why did I never try this before!!???"

"Mind blown! Just boiled mine in water but I’m trying this next time!!" wrote someone else.
