Adam Peaty has been left in a spin over rip-off London prices and the state of the Capital’s chips.

The star – who lives in Loughborough – has been in London ahead of his Strictly journey.

But the Olympic champ’s partner Eirianedd Munro, also known as Eiri, has told how they were left feeling “absolutely mugged” after a visit to a posh London restaurant for dinner.

Eiri said: “We got absolutely mugged. They took everything we owned in exchange for a couple of pieces of pasta ...When in London, if they could charge you to breath, they would.”

They were particularly incensed with the state of the £10 portion of chips at the restaurant. She said: “Look at these little twigs they call fries. My lord.”

She was not alone in questioning the value of the fries.

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers, expressed surprise and said you couldn’t beat proper chips instead.

Mr Crook, who also runs chippy Skippers of Euxton, in Chorley, Lancs, said: “It would be four portions of chips for that money and could probably feed about ten people.

"Our chips are twice as healthy as fries too. Not only do you get better chips, but they are also better for you. Things are going up at the moment but we represent good value for money.”

He added of Peaty’s £10 fries: “It’s a fair lot of money but their overheads are probably a bit more than mine. I dont fancy paying their rents and rates."

Adam was revealed last week as the latest star to appear on the BBC show and said how he was looking forward to “challenging” himself away out of water.

The 26-year-old was instantly made the second favourite to win the BBC show at 5-1 with Ladbrokes, with only McFly star Tom Fletcher ahead of him at 4-1.

He said: “I think this will come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I’m so excited to finally share the news that I’ll be joining Strictly this year.

"I’m really looking forward to doing something totally different and challenging myself away from the pool.

"I’m hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities.”

Peaty made history as the first British swimmer to retain an Olympic title after claiming victory in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke with a time of 57.37 seconds, the fifth fastest time in the event’s history.

All in all, he won two golds and a silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Peaty is an eight-time world champion, a 16-time European champion and a three-time Commonwealth champion.

Following his Olympic success announced he would be taking a short break from the pool and will miss the upcoming International Swimming League starting at the end of this month.
