This is the question posed by Sara Abdul on TikTok after she realised the product she'd been buying from the supermarket for years wasn't what she thought it was.

But before you come for me in the comments, saying this isn't news, it turns out there are a lot of other people who were also clueless to the fact that Elmlea is a cream substitute.

Thousands of people liked the video, with hundreds responding to admit they had no idea it wasn't really cream.

In the clip Sara can be seen holding a pot of the stuff, while saying: "It's an alternative to cream, what the heck?

"It's actually a blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils. I'm so shocked."

She captioned her post by proclaiming: "MY WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE."

More than 90,000 people watched Sara's discovery, with many taking to the comments to admit they also didn't know about this.

One person said: "I was today years old..."

Another wrote: "I was wondering this recently because the expiry date was so far away haha."

Someone else replied: "I found this out when I realised it didn't work while making a cheesecake."

"I bought it and my mum screamed at me for getting fake cream," confessed a different user.

A sixth person responded to say they only found out last year, saying: "I was 31. I'm still horrified."

"Noooo way," added a seventh. "Need to tell mum. Won't make a difference, she's still going to have it."

Others claimed they'd always known this and were shocked people were only just finding out about it.
