It's no secret that cheese is one of the greatest foodie pleasures in life (my condolences if you're lactose intolerant because you are well and truly missing out).

And here in the UK there's a wide variety of cheese on offer in supermarkets and delicatessens, from Cheddar to Red Leicester and Wensleydale.

We are also very lucky to get to try cheeses from all over the world, with French Camembert and Italian cheese such as Parmesan being incredibly popular.

But it turns out over in the US, many food lovers might be missing out on our fabulous British cheeses - if one recent Reddit post is to be believed.

As reported by The Daily Star, a person from America has gone viral online after sharing their reaction to trying UK cheese for the first time.

The post, on Reddit's Casual UK forum, reads: "Not from UK, but I finally tried some real UK cheddar cheese and I feel I've been lied to my whole life.

"I picked up some Wyke Vintage aged cheddar at my local Costco and it is honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted.

"In the US, we normally get this soft, waxy orange-colored cheddar that comparatively has very little cheese flavor.

"This UK cheddar is white, has a deep, rich flavor, and kind of crumbles like a good Parmigiano.

"UK does not f**k around with its cheese. I wonder what else I've been missing out on."

More than 1,800 people responded to the post, sharing their love of British cheeses and other suggestions for the Reddit user to try.

One person said: "You should try and cave aged cheddar. Beautiful."

Another replied: "Very proud that the UK now have our own brie- Somerset brie, oh it's amazing."

A third wrote: "Even the French begrudgingly admit that a good mature cheddar is a very special cheese. They have nothing quite like it even though they have so many sublime cheeses. The French know even if they don’t wanna admit it, we can cheese too!"

"If cheddar blew his mind I dunno what will happen when he tries some gruyere or yarg," proclaimed someone else.

A different user added: "Moving to the UK was the best thing that has happened to me and that’s 70 per cent because of the extra mature cheddar cheese. I love it when it’s a bit crystallised and crunchy at parts. Crazy thing. Never imagined a cheese can be this interesting tasting. And wtf is up with the consistency. It's crazy."
