It was the news the UK needed to hear - to much fanfare, McDonald's have announced their festive menu.

It's getting colder, darker and we're about to officially enter the period of Christmas parties.

So fans of McDonald’s will be pleased to hear, there is a range of suitably festive items available from November 17 to revive you.

We visited McDonald's HQ in East Finchley for a sneak peek of the menu - prepared by their in-house chefs in the test kitchen.

Here's what we thought.

The fast-food chain is introducing two new burgers with a Christmas influence- the Festive Stack and Festive Crispy Chicken.

This burger contains two British and Irish beef patties with red onion relish, white cheese sauce, bacon, crispy onions, red onion, lettuce, cheddar cheese in a glazed brioche-style bun.

Reminiscent of the sandwich you create on Boxing Day, surrounded by leftovers, the cheese sauce is a nice touch - while the chutney jazzes up the burger.

The only downside was I didn't really notice the crispy onions - but the red onion did prove a satisfying crunch.

The Festive Crispy Chicken, meanwhile, is packed with a chicken breast fillet in a crispy coating with cranberry sauce, sage and onion mayo, bacon, red onion, lettuce, cheddar cheese in a glazed poppy and sesame seed bun.

This is the Christmas winner - the cranberry sauce is nice and sweet, while the sage and onion mayonnaise means that it doesn't feel cloying. Perfect for ordering at 11am after drinking all the shots at the annual work Christmas do.

These both retail at £4.89 on their own or £6.39 as part of a meal. Treat yourself, it's Christmas.

with Camembert.
I'm a big fan of the chain's mozzarella sticks, so had high expectations for these, and they were met. Carby, cheesy goodness - what's not to love?

They could have been crunchier, but I expect most people to prefer the squidge. These came with a herby ketchup, which wasn't remarkable, but provided some tang.

Four dippers cost £1.89, but you can go all out with Cheese Melt Dippers Sharebox for £5.09.

Next up was the Festive Pie
They've taken the classic hot crispy pie and filled it with mincemeat and custard. This was a winner, but could never replace the apple-pie shaped hole in my heart, as it's held with such esteem.

But it is a fun festival treat - perfect with a cup of coffee to fuel you while shopping for presents.

This will retail at £1.19.

We wrapped things up with the Celebrations McFlurry
It's the festive chocolate box of choice for many families, mixed with ice cream. What's not to love?

Described as "soft dairy ice cream, swirled with Maltesers clusters, Galaxy chocolate drops, Caramel pieces, Mars chewy pieces and Twix biscuits," eagle-eyed fans will notice there are no Bounty pieces.

Whether that's controversial depends on your feelings - a recent survey showed (52%) of Brits claim it's their least-loved chocolate.

McDonald's has around 1,300 restaurants in the UK.

You can use its store finder tool online to locate your nearest branch.
